Sports walk to mark the 138th International Labour Day

Boulevard du 20 mai in Yaoundé was the starting point and finish line of the workers' sports march this Saturday, April 27, 2024, with Minister of Labor and Social Security Grégoire Owona at the forefront. Departing from boulevard du 20 mai for poste centrale, then avenue Kennedy, montée Anne rouge, avenue des banques, Minrex, collège de la retraite, rond-point Hilton then back to square one at the boulevard, such was the itinerary of this workers' march on Saturday April 27, 2024.

The theme of this 138th edition is “Constructive social dialogue, a factor for promotion, decent work and social progress”. The related activities were launched on April 24 in Nkoteng by the Minister of Labour, who met with Sosucam employees and employers at a meeting following a guided tour of the Nkoteng plant facilities.

The Minister of Labor thanked Minister Talba Malla, President of the Federation of Sport for All, for his presence at the march, and the Secretary of State for Roads at the Ministry of Public Works, who had come to support the workers from all sides.

Isaac Bissala, président UGTC

« I think that this link can lead people to be more supportive because they find themselves sharing something more than just work with sport. This solidarity can help because the social dialogue is not only to come and exchange but even with gestures in sport. I ask the workers to continue to trust us (UGTC), a lot of things are in sight, there are retirees who are there, even those from the informal sector. ».
